Farmhouse Breakfast Week Charity Walks
We are celebrating Farmhouse Breakfast Week with a truly “hearty” idea.
The Farm Burscough, Tea Room and Restaurant, is marking the annual event with a series of Farm Walks to raise money for its annual charity, The British Heart Foundation.
The walks around the Martin Lane farm, which backs-on to Martin Mere Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, will be guided by co-owners of the business, Bill and Freda Neale.
They will be pointing out interesting plants, animals and birds along the way; as well as giving people a background history of the farm and an opportunity to meet the free-range pigs and hens.
The walk is all on flat, level, ground and will last around 30 minutes before returning to the Tea Room for a complimentary drink and bacon, sausage or egg barm.
The Neales have been farming in Burscough for generations and many of the family still live along Martin Lane. Because of its location a vast variety of bird species can be seen along the popular walk which also takes in the farm’s fishing lakes.
Freda said: “We thought that this event would be a great way to mark Farmhouse Breakfast Week. It is an opportunity for people to enjoy the countryside, meet new people and find out about rural life, while raising money for a very good cause.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we will be making a range of daily breakfast specials throughout Farmhouse Breakfast Week.
“One of our most popular meals is our Full-Vegetarian breakfast which is just like a Full-English without the meat! We are famous for our own free-range eggs as well as local sausage and bacon. But there are a whole range of breakfasts for people to choose from and we will be trying out a bit of everything during the week.”
Farmhouse Breakfast Week runs from January 23-29. The farm walks will be held on Tuesday, January 25, Thursday, January 27 and Saturday, January 29.
Tickets for the walks, which set off at 10.30am, can be bought on the day and cost just £5 per person, with all profits going to The British Heart Foundation.

Winners Scoop Pumpkin Prize
We have chosen the winners of our fantastic Pumpkin Carving Competition after facing a difficult choice to find the top of the choppers!
In the end we found our two winners who have carved their way to a family B&B stay in our four-star accommodation with an annual pass to our neighbours, Martin Mere WWT, with second prize also getting an annual pass to Martin Mere and a meal for four in our tearoom/restaurant.
The winners were the Livesley family, from Scarisbrick, and second place went to the Bennet family, from Holmeswood. You can see their winning entries below.
Congratulations to them and thanks to everyone who took part to help make the competition such a success and also so difficult to judge.
Happy Halloween from all at The Farm Burscough.

Six pigs have come to live at the Farm Burscough.
The three All Blacks and three Saddlebacks arrived on Sunday night and are settling in nicely to their new free-range home.
We have fenced off part of a field at The Farm to allow visitors to see how they are getting along. At just two-months old the little porkers are at a very cute stage and have already enjoying having a run around the grass.

David Neale, who grew this year’s pumpkins with his dad Bill, has really got into the spirit and has taken to wearing a home-carved pumpkin on his head – but fear not, he only does this in his own time and will not be entering the competition!
Simply bring along your carved pumpkin to The Farm Burscough, on Martin Lane, Burscough, between Friday, October 22, and Monday, October 25, for judging to take place on Tuesday, October 26.
The designs will be judged in age categories and then an overall winner and second place will be selected to pick up the prizes.
The pumpkin does not have to be bought from the homegrown range available at The Farm Burscough it can come from anywhere to stand a chance of winning.
Cathy Grice, of the Farm Burscough, said: “We have been growing pumpkins for a number of years on the farm and my brother David has experimented with a few different varieties this year. So it will be great to see how people use their creative side to make the spookiest and most exciting design.
“I am looking forward to seeing the designs and helping to judge who will win the competition. We will be putting all the designs on display but are doing the judging early enough to allow people to have them back in time for Halloween.
“There are some great recipes using pumpkins so you can have great fun carving and also end up with a tasty treat as well!”
The Farm Burscough is a stylish tearoom restaurant and large farm shop in a renovated 18th Century brick-barn in the heart of West Lancashire. The building, on Martin Lane, also houses three four-star bed and breakfast rooms.
